The CRU regulates the activities of gas installers with respect to safety. We do this through the Registered Gas Installer (RGI) Scheme. This is operated by the Gas Safety Supervisory Body (GSSB) for the CRU. You need certain professional qualifications to register with the RGI Scheme.Process for recognition (Automatic Recognition System)All applicants who hold professional qualification(s) obtained outside the Republic of Ireland (ROI) but who meet the definition of eligible person under S.I. 8/2017 and who hold an EEA Certificate wishing to undertake Gas Works in the ROI must first have their qualification(s) recognised by the CRU through the Automatic Recognition System before a valid application for registration can be made to join the RGI Scheme. Please note: An EEA Certificate is a certificate issued by the Competent Authority in the home Member State which demonstrates previous pursuit as required by Art. 17 of the EU Directive 2005/26/EC of the activity in the host Member State. If you do not meet the requirements to apply under the Automatic Recognition System you will be assisted in transferring your application to the General Recognition System.</li></ol>Please note that recognition does not automatically give membership of the RGI Scheme, it only facilitates access to apply to join the scheme.In certain circumstances, the applicant may not meet the requirements to have their qualifications recognised under the Automatic Recognition System. Gas Qualifications

The Safe Electric Scheme covers all Registered Electrical Contractors (RECs) working in the ROI. This is operated by the Electrical Safety Supervisory Body (ESSB) for the CRU. You need certain professional qualifications to register with the Safe Electric Scheme.Process for recognition (Automatic Recognition System)All applicants who hold professional qualification(s) obtained outside the Republic of Ireland (ROI) but who meet the definition of eligible person under S.I. 8/2017 and who hold an EEA Certificate wishing to become a Qualified Certifier (QC) for a REC the ROI must first have their qualification(s) recognised by the CRU through the Automatic Recognition System before a valid application for registration can be made to join the Safe Electric Scheme.
