We have published an update to the National Energy Demand Strategy (NEDS). Today's publication is the first in a series of biannual updates that the CRU will publish within the decision. It provides a summary of progress, current priorities, status updates on actions and recommendations, relevant policy developments and sets out the next steps.
- In 2024, the CRU published the NEDS to enhance Ireland’s energy demand flexibility to support a more sustainable, cost-effective, and secure energy system. It identified key actions and recommendations, assigned to several stakeholders, that are required to support this goal.
- Since publication, the strategy has moved to implementation phase, focused on incentivising the uptake and diversity of flexibility for energy consumers through appropriate policies, market and standards, as well as enabling products and technologies.
Overall support for the progression of these actions and recommendations are contained within the Government’s Climate Action Plan 2024 (CAP24), which calls for the implementation of the NEDS (EL/24/20) by all relevant bodies in order to realise the demand side strategy.
